Issuing of Media Identity Cards was introduced in 1984 in order to facilitate local and foreign journalists in their duties. This is the only acceptable identity card issued by the government for journalists. Temporary identity cards are issued to foreign journalists subject to the period of their visa with the approval of the Ministry of External Affairs.
