WP Junior Cadetting training camp - 2017 begins next week

camp trainingThe National Cadet Corps (NCC) will conduct the Western Province Junior Cadetting Training Camp from 12th to 15th December. The Junior NCC will be held at the Siyane National College of Education in Veyangoda.

 

A press briefing in this regard was held at the Ministry yesterday (6th Dec.) with the presence of the Secretary to the State Ministry of Defence Sunil Samaraweera.

The initial Junior NCC program was restarted as a Pilot Project in schools in the Trincomalee and Monaragala Districts. The NCC was able to conduct eight Junior boys and two Junior girls Assessment Camps at the end of that year. 189 boys and 52 girls cadet platoons participated in this program.

Students between 12-14 years of age are trained as Junior Cadets from boys and girls schools in government, semi-government and private schools. Their training includes physical training, map reading, first aids, foot drills, tactics, building of values and ethics and etc. They will also be provided with training on leadership qualities, self-confidence and team spirit.

The National Cadet Corps is an entity that comes under the purview of the State Ministry of Defence. 'Junior Cadet Training' ceased to continue in 1980, but the program recommenced under the directions of the President and the guidance of the Prime Minister, last year. The Junior Cadet Corps has developed into 29 boys battalions and 9 girls battalions to date.

The department assists media in a macro level in welfare, training, policy planning and accreditation, and providing easy access to Government news and information.
