President extends best wishes to Sri Lankan students who plan to conquer world’s second highest mountain ‘K2’

He news 2017 8 30President Maithripala Sirisena made a financial donation to the Kandy Dharmaraja College Scout Group troops who plan to conquer the world’s second highest mountain Karakoram 2 (K2) in Pakistan, at the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday (29).


This is the first time that a Sri Lankan Scout Group takes part in climbing the world’s second highest mountain ‘K2’ and for this challenging task the President made a donation of one million rupees.


The Sri Lankan Scout Group is scheduled to depart the country on 31st of August and it will take 21 days to climb the mountain K2.


 
The encouragement and support given by the President for the children who are keen to take the pride of Sri Lanka to the world by conquering this kind of challenging tasks, was  commended during this event.


The President handed over the Sri Lankan flag to the Scout Group to plant at the summit of the mountain and he also posed for a group photograph with the Scout Group.


The Chief Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayake and Central Province Minister Thilina Bandara Tennakoon, Deputy Chief Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association J. Fernando, Deputy Principal of Kandy Dharmaraja College and the Teacher in charge of the Scout Group participated on this occasion.
